GRANTING POLICIES

Grants are made only to Registered Charitable Organizations. We focus primarily on capital grants for projects in Alberta. Some priority is given to Calgary-based projects. Typically we do not fund projects located in Edmonton when these serve primarily a local need, on the assumption that such projects can be funded locally in Edmonton. Further, as a general rule, we do not provide funds for operating expenses, research, deficit reduction, sponsorship, seminars, tours or conferences. Government regulations prohibit our providing funds to individuals.

Capital grants are for the purchase of equipment and furnishings, and for the renovation, purchase or construction of buildings. Ordinarily we do not provide operating dollars to applicants, but we must be assured that operating dollars will be available, so that the capital project will be viable once it is completed.

We support projects which meet a significant need in the community, and which are well supported at the local level. The projects may focus on social services, education, health or culture. We receive about twenty applications per month, and typically are able to fund only about fifteen percent of the projects which do apply.

Please note that the regulations which govern our Foundation do not permit us to fund anything other than a registered Canadian charity.  As such, we cannot consider requests from India, Africa, South America and other foreign destinations, unless there is a formal link with a registered Canadian charity.

From time to time we will share grant applications with other funders who we believe may be receptive. If you DO NOT wish us to share information on your organization, please advise us in your covering letter. All such requests will be honoured.
