APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Those seeking funding are asked to submit a brief proposal, not more than two pages in length. This proposal should include the following:

i The registered name of your organization and its CRA (aka Revenue Canada) charitable number;
i A description of your organization: how long has it existed? What are its objectives? Who do you serve? How are you funded?
i The purpose for which you are seeking a grant;
i The required timing for the grant.

This summary of your proposal can be submitted by email (to applications (at symbol) nicklefoundation.org) for pre-screening, if you wish. We will inform you by return email whether your proposed project is consistent with our guidelines and should be pursued. Please note, however, that no proposal will be sent forward to the Board for a decision until the following information has been submitted and reviewed by Foundation staff:

i A copy of your most recent audited financial statements;
i Detailed operating budget, and, where relevant, capital budget;
i Detail regarding current and future sources of operating dollars;
i Detail regarding current fundraising campaign (if appropriate); and
i Detail regarding private and government support for the project.

In most cases, the two-page summary and the background detail are submitted together, by regular mail. We may follow up with telephone enquiries for further information, and we may ask to conduct site visits, at our discretion.

Funding decisions are made twice yearly, usually in April or May and again in September or October, subject to the availability of funds. At the moment no applications are being accepted. Applications to be considered at the next meeting of our Board must be received prior to the application deadline.

Correspondence should be addressed to:

Nickle Family Foundation
ATTN: Executive Director

E mail: info (at symbol) nicklefoundation.org

All applications are first screened using our granting policies. Applicants who do not meet the criteria are advised as soon as possible. All other applications are referred to our Board. The final decision on each grant request is made by the Board of Directors, and no reasons normally are given for Board decisions.

From time to time we will share grant applications with other funders who we believe may be receptive. If you DO NOT wish us to share information on your organization, please advise us in your covering letter. All such requests will be honoured.
